A 2026 PRRI survey of more than 5,000 adults found only 40% of Hispanic Americans believe the American dream remains a reality today, down from 52% two years earlier. National pride among Hispanic Americans fell from 77% to 42% over the past decade, a steeper drop than the general population's decline from 82% to 51%, and 56% of Hispanic Americans now say they feel like strangers in their own country. Favorable views of the Trump administration's immigration handling among Hispanics fell from 31% in 2025 to 19% in 2026, even as Hispanic Republican identification has doubled since 2013.

The analysis found political affiliation itself was not a statistically significant factor once national pride, attachment to the U.S., and views on immigration enforcement were accounted for, suggesting the disillusionment cuts across party lines. Concerns about voter ID laws and proposed legislation requiring additional voting documentation were also linked to weakened trust in democratic institutions among Latino citizens.
