Democratic senators say a DHS whistleblower has revealed an ‘Unlawful Voter Initiative’ in which immigration officers combed state voter rolls, sometimes impersonating voters to access records, while working under pressure to complete five investigations per hour. U.S. citizens were reportedly swept up due to faulty data.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Alex Padilla called for the operation to be shut down, framing it as an attempt to justify President Trump's claims of noncitizen voter fraud ahead of the midterms. DHS did not respond to a request for comment.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin separately announced two cases of noncitizens voting illegally, in Kansas and Louisiana. Noncitizen voting in federal elections is illegal and, by all independent accounting, exceedingly rare.

Five investigations an hour is not detective work, that's piecework, and anybody who has ever been paid by the bushel knows what happens to quality when the count is what gets you paid. They went looking for a thing everyone who counts these things says is vanishingly rare, and they came back with two. Run those numbers next to the citizens who got dragged into it and tell me who came out ahead.
