Harry Enten Drops Some ‘Effing Rough’ News For Trump And Republicans

CNN's Harry Enten agreed with a Trump adviser's assessment, reported earlier by the network, that the 2026 midterms will be 'effing rough' for Republicans and, by extension, President Trump. Enten pointed to Trump's net approval rating in key House battleground districts, now minus 16 points compared to minus 8 in September 2018, the cycle Democrats last flipped the House.

The bigger factor, according to Enten, is economic approval: 77% of voters in those districts approved of Trump's economy in 2018, versus 37% now. He called the comparison imperfect but said it still points to Republicans facing an uphill fight this fall.

A White House that spends this much energy insisting the economy is roaring might want to ask why the very voters it needs are giving it a 37 out of 100. Numbers like that do not come from bad polling, they come from people checking their own grocery receipts. The adviser who called it 'effing rough' at least had the decency to say it plainly.
