A Polish tourist bus carrying 57 passengers and two drivers overturned into a ditch after coming off Hungary's M3 motorway in the early hours of Sunday, killing twelve people. Police believe the driver fell asleep at the wheel and have taken him into custody.
Firefighters rescued 35 people, with cranes brought in to lift the 24-tonne vehicle off those trapped underneath. Hungarian officials reported one person with life-threatening injuries, nine with serious injuries and 37 with minor injuries; Prime Minister Péter Magyar offered condolences to victims' families.
