Actor Nikita Kukushkin recorded a video for the ‘Noon for a Peaceful Russia’ campaign, urging voters to show up at polling stations at noon on September 20, the main day of Duma voting, as a legal way to signal opposition to the war in Ukraine. Exiled opposition figure Ilya Yashin and others are promoting the effort, launched the same day as Kukushkin's video, titled ‘I Am War.’

The video directly echoes a 1971 American ad against the Vietnam War featuring Henry Fonda, part of a campaign called ‘Help Unsell the War’ that ran on local stations after major networks refused it. That original campaign, dreamed up by a 20-year-old Yale student, arrived after most Americans already opposed the war it targeted.
