Unitree's Shanghai STAR Market debut saw its stock surge 629% intraday before closing up 487%, valuing the company at roughly $53 billion on net profit of about $41 million last year — a P/E near 1,300x. The IPO raised $904 million by selling about 10% of the company, and the retail tranche was oversubscribed more than 5,500 times.

Institutional backers include DeepSeek, Tencent, PetroChina and China Telecom, while founder Wang Xingxing's roughly 30% stake is now worth over 100 billion yuan. Unitree shipped more than 5,500 humanoids in 2025 and about 18,000 units total by July.

By contrast, U.S. rival Agility Robotics is going public via SPAC at an implied $4 billion valuation, backed by over $300 million in committed orders but no profits and no released revenue figures yet.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A price-to-earnings ratio in the four figures is not a valuation, it is a mood ring with a ticker symbol, and everyone involved knows it. The oversubscription numbers are being reported as evidence of demand when they are closer to evidence of a queue outside a building nobody has looked inside. Somewhere a spreadsheet is quietly asking to be let out of the room.
