A presidential proclamation imposes tariffs on unmanned aircraft systems and their components, following a Section 232 investigation by the Commerce Secretary finding that import reliance threatens national security.

The proclamation sets a high ad valorem duty on UAS over 25 kilograms and on docking stations, with a lower duty on smaller drones and a delayed lower duty on certain critical components.

It cites concerns about foreign-made software transmitting data abroad and insufficient domestic manufacturing capacity to meet military and commercial demand.

Framing docking stations as a national security threat right alongside heavier military-grade drones is the kind of category-blurring that makes tariff lists grow more than security actually improves. The domestic industry gets its protection either way; the security rationale is doing a lot of lifting for a lot of hardware.
