Alexander Kondratov, the 52-year-old production designer behind the acclaimed series Likvidatsiya, has been charged with treason by Russian authorities after traveling from his home in Kyiv to Russia to renew his passport. He was detained at Vnukovo Airport in May and held over 70 days before the charge was filed in August.

His attorney says investigators cited at least six online publications as evidence, without specifying their contents. Kondratov, born and raised in Moscow, has lived in Kyiv since 2012, where his family remains; his award-winning work on the 2007 series is otherwise undisputed.
