Angie Nixon won Florida's Democratic Senate primary with 55.2% of the vote, defeating Alexander Vindman, and will face Republican incumbent Ashley Moody, who was appointed to the seat after Marco Rubio became Secretary of State. A July poll from the University of North Florida had Moody leading 50% to 42%.

Nixon, a Jacksonville lawmaker and former union organizer, is running on affordability, wages and health care, with backing from labor and progressive groups. She trails badly in fundraising compared to both Moody and her primary opponent, a real constraint in a state with expensive media markets.

Betting markets Polymarket and Kalshi give Republicans 90-91% odds of holding the seat. Florida last elected a Democrat to the Senate in 2012, and the GOP has widened its registration advantage and won most statewide races since.

Nothing here is dishonest, just structurally lopsided: a spirited underdog campaign running into a decade of demographic and financial trend lines that don't care about enthusiasm. The Schumer-Gillibrand statement reads like it was written before anyone checked the crosstabs, which, given the numbers in the same piece, it probably was.
