Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the so-called Anchorage agreements, terms Russia claimed emerged from the August 2025 Trump-Putin summit in Alaska, are no longer part of the negotiations. He credited Ukraine's armed forces and the current state of the front line for the shift away from demands for Ukrainian neutrality and recognition of Russian control over occupied territory.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had said in February that Russia accepted U.S. proposals from the Alaska meeting but that Washington was no longer willing to follow through, later remarking that the spirit of Anchorage is evaporating. Zelensky said Russia continues to pay a heavy cost in casualties for its remaining advances.
