Former Cambridge professor Jason Arday was found unresponsive in Battersea and pronounced dead on Friday; police are treating the death as unexpected but not suspicious. His family said in a statement that 'the campaign of misinformation was too much for Jason,' describing years of sustained abuse since he took the Cambridge role.

Arday resigned last week following media reports alleging he plagiarised his PhD thesis and other research, and questioning claims he made about a charity fundraiser and a running feat; an investigation at Liverpool John Moores University cleared him of wrongdoing, while Durham, Glasgow and Cambridge continue reviews of his appointments. Education Secretary Lucy Powell and Cambridge's vice-chancellor offered condolences, while MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy criticised the university's handling of the allegations.

Jo Maugham of the Good Law Project said Arday had told him in recent days that he felt his life was over, and questioned the media's risk assessment in continuing to pursue him after his resignation. Arday's memoir, due out August 27, had its promotional events cancelled before his death.
