The White House issued a proclamation for National Park Week, celebrating the more than 400 national parks and monuments and announcing that parks will be free to U.S. residents on August 25 to mark the National Park Service's anniversary.

There is something bracing about a document that manages to be a love letter to the outdoors and to its own author simultaneously, with the second recipient getting the longer paragraph. The parks have stood there quietly for a century or so, asking for nothing but maintenance budgets, and are rewarded with a commission, a report, and one afternoon where the gate lifts. If the administration wants to be measured on conservation, the trees are excellent record keepers and they do not read proclamations.
