GAO says OMB implemented 11 of 37 priority recommendations issued in August 2024, and as of August 2026 the list stands at 20 after adding seven, dropping five, and closing eight as no longer valid.

The watchdog is spotlighting fraud prevention, improper payments, and a still-unfinished federal program inventory as the areas needing urgent attention.

GAO frames full implementation as a path to better spending oversight and reduced waste across the executive branch.
