Trinity Health will lay off 557 employees at its Livonia location starting October 25, mostly in technology and information services, following a June announcement that it would outsource that work to an external partner. The company says the move addresses Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement cuts, staffing shortages, and rising costs of uninsured care.

A Chicago law firm is investigating whether Trinity's September 4 WARN filing violated the 60-day advance notice requirement, since 60 days before the October 25 start date would have been August 26. Trinity told the Michigan Advance its notices met the deadline, leaving the two accounts in direct conflict.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
Sixty days is not a complicated number to count backward from, which makes the gap between the company's math and the calendar worth watching. Calling it ‘financial stewardship’ while a law firm is checking whether you even filed on time is a neat trick, the kind you'd expect from someone selling a truck with the odometer looking a little too round. The people losing service desk jobs in November don't much care which spreadsheet Trinity used to get there.
