Russian drones struck a gas station and a passenger train near the Yahodyn crossing, several kilometers from Ukraine's border with Poland, setting trucks ablaze and injuring two drivers, according to Ukrainian media. Ukrainian Railways said its crew had been warned in advance of the train strike, which hit the locomotive two kilometers from the Polish frontier and helped avoid casualties.

Ukraine's railway chief said Russian forces have hit depots, stations, and rolling stock continuously for two days, delaying some trains by more than 18 hours. Ukraine's foreign minister called the strikes near the EU border 'Putin's terror knocking on NATO's doors' and urged a total trade embargo and travel ban on Russians; Russia's defense ministry said it was targeting infrastructure moving military cargo from Europe.

At the BRICS summit, Modi and Xi reportedly offered to help mediate, and Russian officials floated a possible new round of US-Russia-Ukraine talks in October, potentially in Abu Dhabi. Separately, strikes in Kramatorsk killed several people and damaged homes over recent days, part of what officials describe as constant bombardment of the city.

You can knock on a neighbor's fence all you want, but if you are the one who keeps setting it on fire, nobody is going to believe you are just trying to get their attention. The talk of trilateral meetings and peace offers from faraway capitals sounds nice enough, but the trains still are not running on time and the gas station is still burning. Diplomacy is a fine thing to schedule for October when the shooting has not stopped in September.
