Russia is wearing down Kyiv’s air defenses with near-daily drone attacks. Now the strikes continue into daylight.

Russia has shifted tactics against Kyiv, deploying jet-powered drones that are faster and harder to intercept than earlier models, while also attacking more frequently, at night and in daytime waves, to exhaust air defenses. The approach became clear in late August during five straight days of continuous attack on the capital.

After a brief lull, strikes intensified again from September 22 to 28, killing 13 Kyiv residents and injuring more than 160. Civilians in the city suffered casualties on 16 of the first 24 days of September, a frequency unmatched since the full-scale invasion began.
