An Afghan girl recounts in a first-person essay how she pursued education despite war and hardship, only to see every path closed after the Taliban's takeover in 2021.

She describes moving cities with her father to keep studying, eventually enrolling in a midwifery institute, the last field still open to women, before the Taliban banned all female education entirely.

She writes that the international community has largely looked away, and that she and her peers continue to hope for a future in which their right to learn is restored.
