Nutrition specialists say a growing number of parents are restricting fruit for their kids over sugar fears, conflating the natural sugars in bananas and berries with added sugars found in candy and soda.
Clinicians quoted in the piece note that 88% of Americans already fall short of recommended fruit intake and 95% fall short on fiber, making fruit restriction the opposite of a real public health problem.
Experts attribute the confusion to a broader climate of nutrition misinformation, where black-and-white messaging about 'good' and 'bad' foods crowds out more nuanced advice from actual dietitians.

A banana has never once been the reason anybody's blood sugar went sideways, and treating fruit like it is candy in disguise is the kind of confusion that spreads faster than the thing it is worried about. The real shortage here is fiber, not caution.
