U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin and Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed held a joint town hall in Warren on Saturday as part of El-Sayed's campaign tour, framing Macomb County as the decisive battleground in Michigan's 2026 Senate race against Republican Mike Rogers. Slotkin, who beat Rogers for the same seat in 2024, cast the choice facing Democrats as 'fight versus flight' rather than moderate versus progressive, and declared herself on 'Team Fight.'
El-Sayed used the stage to push Medicare for All, criticize HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and argue the party needs a Senate majority to check the Trump administration's cabinet. Slotkin noted that if El-Sayed wins, Michigan's delegation would be the youngest in U.S. history and the only one to have rejected corporate PAC money, while also crediting Macomb voters with deciding her own 2024 election.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
Two Democrats standing on a stage agreeing with each other is not exactly breaking news, but calling it unity takes some nerve when the whole point was to paper over a real fight inside the party. The ‘youngest delegation in history’ line is the kind of claim you make when you don't have much else to run on yet. Macomb County has heard plenty of politicians tell it how important it is right before an election; the trick is whether anybody remembers them after.
