Karoline Leavitt, 28, is leaving her post as White House press secretary at the end of the month to become one of Trump's outside advisers, per a Truth Social post from the president. Her tenure included calling tariffs a 'tax cut for the American people' despite economists and the Tax Foundation estimating they cost households roughly $1,000 a year, and justifying USAID's dismantling by claiming, falsely, that $50m was going to fund condoms in Gaza. Documents show no such condoms were sent anywhere in the Middle East.

A Lancet study estimated the broader US foreign aid cuts Leavitt helped justify could contribute to more than 14 million deaths, including 4.5 million children under five, by 2030. She also told a HuffPost reporter via text that 'your mom' suggested Budapest for a Trump-Putin summit, then called him a 'far left hack.' Her husband, Nicholas Riccio, 60, runs a multimillion-dollar real estate business.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A press secretary's job is to spin; this one seemed to treat basic verifiable facts as an annoying formality rather than a constraint. Leaving to become an 'outside advisor' while insisting it's about family time and not sinking approval ratings is itself a fittingly unfalsifiable exit line. One assumes a cable news chair is being reupholstered as we speak.
