Wait — Trump claimed to have the lowest inflation of the last 10 presidents, citing a chart comparing his first 18 months to his predecessors' full four-year terms. Because his second term's data simply stops at month 18 while others' totals keep climbing to 48 months, the comparison assumes zero inflation for the remaining two and a half years of his presidency.

Measured fairly, at the 18-month mark Trump's cumulative inflation of 4.34% is actually the fourth-highest of the last 10 terms, behind Biden, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush's first term. The chart's own creator told FactCheck.org it wasn't meant to suggest Trump would have the lowest inflation over a full term.

A White House unable to defend its own chart but perfectly willing to call skeptics idiots is a tell, not a rebuttal. If the inflation numbers were actually good, nobody would need a chart that stops counting the moment the bad math would start.
