Ukrainian suspected in Nord Stream bombing reportedly arrested while working on film about the attack

A Ukrainian citizen wanted in connection with the Nord Stream pipeline bombings, Volodymyr Zhuravlev, was reportedly arrested in Croatia while working on a film dramatizing the same attack, according to German outlet LTO. The production, 'Snake Island,' stars Sean Penn and Adrien Brody and is directed by Doug Liman, and had relocated from Zagreb to the coastal city of Pula for diving scenes.

Germany issued an EU-wide warrant for Zhuravlev in 2024, but he left Poland for Ukraine before it could be enforced; he returned to Warsaw in 2025 and was detained, though a Polish court declined to extradite him. He is the second Nord Stream suspect whose detention has surfaced, after Serhiy Kuznetsov's arrest in Italy, where a court approved extradition to Germany.

Somewhere in this saga is a lesson about the wisdom of taking a paycheck to reenact the thing you are wanted for, but the more instructive detail is the parade of courts reaching opposite conclusions on the same warrant, as if extradition were a matter of local taste rather than law.
