Conservative Host Says Private GOP Midterm Warning Is So Bad He Almost Kept It Secret

Conservative host Steve Deace said on X that Iowa House Republicans were privately warned by their own pollsters that even usually safe +15 districts are within the margin of error, and that +10 districts are already underwater, ahead of the 2026 midterms. Deace said the environment could be worse than the 2006 wave that cost Republicans control of Congress.

Deace, who hosts a show on Blaze Media, blamed much of the trouble on the war with Iran that Trump launched in February, calling it a political albatross comparable to the 2020 pandemic lockdowns. He also cited the cost-of-living crisis as a drag on the party, and urged Trump to campaign more aggressively while Republicans still have six weeks to change course.

When a friendly radio host has to talk himself into publishing bad news because he is worried about morale, that tells you the news is bad. Nobody sits on a poll that says things are fine. The man wants a rescue plan and the best he can offer is more yelling, which is a little like fixing a leaky roof by shouting at the rain.
