President Trump said Saturday he would love to see Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman become a Republican, telling reporters at Joint Base Andrews that Fetterman polls better as a Republican than as a Democrat and praising his parents and his common sense.
Fetterman has repeatedly rejected switching parties, writing in May that he is a terrible Republican who still votes overwhelmingly with Democrats. Polling shows a stark split: 73 percent of Pennsylvania Republicans view him favorably versus just 22 percent of Democrats, down from 74 percent in 2024.
The speculation follows Fetterman's video praising GOP Senator Dave McCormick and denouncing political extremism, which alarmed fellow Democrats ahead of a midterm map where Democrats need four seats to retake the Senate majority.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A fellow being told by the other team's captain that he'd make a fine addition isn't usually getting a compliment, he's getting scouted. Fetterman can insist all he wants that he's staying put, but when your own side's approval drops from 74 to 22 percent in two years, the invitation starts to look less like flattery and more like an exit sign somebody else is holding up for you. Trump handing out praise for a man's parents is the tell that he's selling something, not reporting news.
