The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted the Trump administration's request to resume rapid third-country deportations while litigation continues, letting the government keep sending noncitizens to nations other than their own, including some with documented human rights concerns. Oral arguments are set for December, when the court will consider jurisdiction, classwide relief, and the underlying legality of the practice.
Justices Sotomayor, Kagan and Jackson noted they would have denied the request. The lower court order being challenged didn't ban third-country removals outright, it simply required giving noncitizens adequate time to argue they'd face harm in the destination country before being sent there.

The Supreme Court didn't rule the policy is lawful, it just said the deportations can keep happening while the lawyers sort that out over the next few months. That's a fine distinction if you're reading a legal brief and a pretty rough one if you're the person on the plane. December is a long way off for anyone worried about where they're about to land.
