Speaking to judge, Lauren Boebert urges mercy in son’s child abuse case

A Colorado judge sentenced Tyler Boebert, son of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, to 20 days in jail with work release after he pleaded guilty to child abuse and neglect stemming from his toddler being found wandering outside unsupervised. Prosecutors said it was one of three such incidents in 2025, including one near a busy road and another near a lake dock.

Lauren Boebert addressed the court on her son's behalf, asking for leniency and describing the incidents as failures of communication rather than cruelty, citing a miscommunication with a babysitter and a broken door lock. Judge Michele Meyer said the repeated nature of the incidents was concerning, along with the fact that Tyler Boebert was already serving a deferred sentence from a 2024 identity theft conviction, but she did not impose the maximum 30-day sentence.

Tyler Boebert also faces separate, more serious charges filed in August: three counts of sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, tied to allegations involving explicit images of a then-17-year-old from 2024. He is due back in court September 10 for final sentencing on the earlier identity theft case.
