A prototype wind turbine in Lusatia, Germany, has reached a total height of 365 meters, taller than the Eiffel Tower, with developer Gicon calling it the world's tallest. The hub height of 300 meters is meant to capture steadier, stronger winds, with the company claiming it could produce more than double the electricity of a turbine at today's typical heights.
The turbine, still awaiting internal wiring before its planned November inauguration, is a test case for a future wind farm of three to five similarly tall turbines. Gicon's chief executive also floated the idea of ‘two-story’ wind farms mixing short and tall turbines to address land shortages.
Germany produced 59.1 percent of its energy from renewables in the first half of 2026, with wind the single largest source at 29.4 percent, as the country continues winding down nuclear and, eventually, coal.
