Russian forces struck the locomotive of a passenger train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw in Ukraine's Volyn Oblast, just two kilometers from the Polish border, Ukrainian Railways said. No one was injured; a monitoring team had warned the crew in advance.
The strike came a day after Russian Shahed drones hit train stations in Lutsk, Fastiv and Kovel, and the same morning brought further drone attacks on Ivano-Frankivsk, Stryi and Ternopil, injuring one person and damaging a high-rise and industrial facility.
Ukrainian Railways called it the second straight day the railway had been targeted, and noted a nearby gas station near the Yahodyn border crossing had also been struck.
The full dispatch is available from the source below.
✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A train two kilometers from a NATO member's border getting hit by a drone ought to make more than a few phone calls ring in Warsaw and Brussels. It didn't kill anyone this time, and that seems to be doing a lot of the calming down for everybody involved. Distance measured in kilometers is a thin thing to build a sense of safety on.
