Pro-government forces in Ethiopia say they retook Alamata, a strategic town on a major highway into Tigray, after days of multi-front clashes with rebel forces. The Tigray Peace Force announced the capture on Facebook, and the conflict monitor ACLED confirmed federal forces had seized the town.

The Tigray People's Liberation Front launched attacks into neighboring Amhara and Afar regions last week, taking Erebti in Afar and pushing toward supply routes from Djibouti. Fighting has also spread to Amhara, including near the UNESCO site of Lalibela, raising fears of a return to a civil war that killed an estimated 600,000 people between 2020 and 2022.
