A retired Portland pediatrician with 30 years of practice writes that she is alarmed by what she calls the worst U.S. measles outbreak in 35 years, alongside an infectious diarrhea outbreak, infant deaths tied to misinformation about standard newborn protocols, growing food insecurity in Maine, and the closure of another maternity unit, this time in Lincoln County.

She argues these are not coincidental but the result of what she calls immoral representatives spreading misinformation, cutting funding, and removing qualified people from positions meant to protect children's health. She calls for voters to elect local, state and federal officials of stronger moral character focused on children's welfare.
