Vice President JD Vance told Christian podcaster Bryce Crawford he would not be shocked if the Antichrist were already walking among us, or if the end times were happening right now. Vance, who said he has been fascinated by end-times theology since childhood, framed his current government work as an effort to do God's work regardless of whether that hastens the apocalypse or builds a lasting future.

Vance said as a Catholic he feels commanded to try to shape the world according to what he believes God wants, adding that the end times could arrive in thousands of years or in a few months. The remarks, first amplified by clips on social media, drew swift and pointed reactions from critics questioning the implications of a vice president expressing indifference to timelines involving civilizational collapse.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
There is a load-bearing difference between a private eschatology and a public one, and the difference is whether the person holding it has a security detail and a budget. A man who tells you the timeline might be centuries or might be by spring is a man asking to be graded on a curve no auditor has ever accepted. The reassuring version of this interview does not exist, which is presumably why nobody has been sent out to give it.
