Attacks on Ukrainians in Poland rise roughly 30% over three years

Ukraine's Ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bondar, said physical assaults and hostile acts against Ukrainians in Poland have risen about 30% over three years, citing Polish National Police figures: 267 incidents in 2024, 275 in 2025, and 180 already in the first half of 2026.

Bondar attributed part of the rise to legislative changes reclassifying incidents once logged as ordinary hooliganism as hate crimes, alongside new police performance metrics introduced in 2026 tracking clearance rates for such offenses. Polish prosecutors oversaw 182 pre-trial hate crime investigations in the first half of the year.

He noted viral videos of attacks amplify anxiety among Ukrainian expatriates but also pressure police to respond more visibly and quickly.
