Tammara Saloum, a former records clerk for Oak Park, Michigan, has filed a lawsuit in Oakland County Circuit Court alleging religious discrimination, harassment, and privacy violations, represented by attorneys from CAIR-Michigan. The complaint alleges her supervisor made derogatory comments about her Muslim faith, including regarding her fasting during Ramadan, and that a coworker made disparaging remarks about imams. Saloum alleges her supervisor separately accessed a secure police-records database to find and share details of a sexual assault she suffered while working for the Dearborn Police Department, information she says fueled further workplace harassment.

The lawsuit states Saloum began reporting complaints to human resources in May 2025, that HR acknowledged her supervisor had faced prior discrimination complaints but imposed no formal discipline beyond two days of training, and that by August 2025 the toll led her to take extended medical leave. Oak Park's communications director says the city takes such allegations seriously, maintains a zero-tolerance policy, and notes the Michigan Department of Civil Rights dismissed an earlier complaint from Saloum in February 2026 for insufficient evidence. The city says it had not yet been formally served with the new lawsuit as of Wednesday afternoon.
