A man says his own uncle's whole personality runs on being looked at, and asks the press to just look away sometimes. It is a tidy theory, and it has the added charm of coming from someone who watched the show up close for decades. Whether newsrooms built on click totals can actually resist the bait is the part nobody in this story has an answer for.
