Ukraine's military says fighting continued along the front despite a unilateral ceasefire initiative running Sept. 5 through 9, after Russia refused to halt fire. Ukraine's General Staff said a one-sided halt would endanger its own troops, so defensive operations continued in full even as the initiative stood.

Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed the rejection in the most Russian way possible: by publishing a list of overnight strikes on industrial sites and infrastructure in Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Odesa oblasts. The ministry's report did not mention the four people killed in Kamianske or the injuries at a Mykolaiv shopping center.

The episode arrived wrapped around a separate diplomatic subplot, with U.S. envoys Witkoff and Kushner touring Moscow and Kyiv while Ukraine suspended long-range strikes to keep Russian airspace calm for the visit. Reports diverged on whether any real halt existed at all, with some military sources telling reporters no such order had reached tactical units.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A ceasefire that only one army agrees to observe is not a ceasefire, it is a target list with a grace period attached. Moscow proved that by publishing its own strike report and simply leaving out the part where people died. Diplomacy conducted this way is mostly for the cameras following the envoys around, not for the people under the missiles.
