More than 600 people attended the two-day Living History Festival at The Wardrobe, home of The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum in Salisbury, on August 8-9, featuring reenactors spanning the medieval period through the World Wars and the American Civil War.
Attendees could handle weapons ranging from muskets to SA80 rifles at a new 'Firepower, Mobility and Protection' stand, while other displays included medieval surgical instruments and military encampments from multiple eras.
The event marked a return for the museum, which reopened in May after an 18-month refurbishment closure, with curator Bethany Joyce saying the hands-on approach helps engage younger visitors who might otherwise find the collection distant.
