The Getty Villa is staging Antigone: In the Language of Kings, a Latino Theater Company production adapting Sophocles into pre-conquest Tenochtitlan, performed in English, Spanish and Nahuatl with dual supertitles.

Directed by José Luis Valenzuela and adapted by Evelina Fernández, the run continues through October 3, with costumes, stilted Death figures, and projections building out the Mesoamerican setting on the Getty's outdoor stage.

The Los Angeles Times review noted the adaptation trades some of the original's moral ambiguity for a more clear-cut conflict, though the production otherwise draws praise for its craft.
