Kremlin rejects Estonia’s claim of Russian role in arson at defense company working with Ukraine

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed as “groundless and rash” Estonian claims that Russian special services ordered an August arson attack on a building used by defense company Milrem Robotics in Tallinn. Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said security police concluded the sabotage aimed to weaken Estonia's support for Ukraine, vowing stronger domestic security and continued support instead of intimidation.

Estonia's foreign minister summoned Russia's chargé d'affaires over the incident, while Latvian security services have detained three suspects, all reported to be Latvian citizens. Milrem Robotics, which makes THeMIS unmanned ground combat vehicles for Ukraine, said the fire did not disrupt its supply chains.

Moscow's response to being accused of sabotage is, as ever, a shrug and a lecture about jumping to conclusions. It is a tidy trick: deny everything specific while never addressing why a defense contractor's building caught fire the same month it was helping arm Ukraine. Estonia says it won't be intimidated, which is a nice sentiment to hold onto right up until the next fire.
