Donald Trump again attributed rising U.S. diesel prices primarily to Ukraine's strikes on Russian refineries, saying Russian refining capacity is being knocked offline at an alarming rate. Analysts cited by the report also point to the U.S.-Iran war and falling global fuel inventories as contributing factors.
This is at least the second time Trump has made the claim, having previously urged Volodymyr Zelenskyy to halt the refinery strikes over diesel shortages. Meanwhile Russia has extended bans on diesel exports through October, and the Trump administration is weighing its own export restrictions and has asked the EU to tap strategic reserves.

It takes a certain confidence to watch a country get invaded, watch that country hit back at the invader's fuel supply, and conclude the real problem is the hitting back. Russia is the one restricting its own exports to cover the shortfall it created by starting the war, yet somehow the diesel pump gets blamed on Kyiv. A neighbor who burns down his own barn and then complains about the smoke would get laughed off the porch; this gets repeated on a podium.
