Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps under Ukraine's HUR intelligence agency, says in a video released by RDK that SBU chief Gen. Oleksandr Poklad personally pressured him during the first three days of a ten-day secret detention. Kaplunov claims the goal was to force him to implicate his own commander and HUR head Kyrylo Budanov in FSB cooperation.
He also alleges the SBU tried to plant items in his apartment, pointing to footage of unidentified men entering his building the day after his disappearance. The SBU, for its part, says Kaplunov is suspected of FSB ties and was plotting an assassination and attacks on Ukrainian troops.
The dispute follows a Sept. 2 shootout in Kyiv between SBU and Defense Forces-linked personnel, which President Zelenskyy called 'absolutely shameful' and which prompted the dismissal of senior SBU official Oleh Khramov.

Two security agencies pointing fingers while a man says he was worked over for three days straight is not a good look no matter whose flag is on the building. When the president himself calls his own services shameful, that is not spin, that is a man watching his own house catch fire. Whatever the truth of the FSB claims, somebody in Kyiv has some explaining to do that a press release will not cover.
