Jaco Muller turned his teenage son's school project into the Rhino Momma Project, a private breeding operation in Namibia's Kunene region that recorded 197 rhino births since its first calf in 2013.

Muller dehorned his animals to blunt poaching, ran tourism through his Kifaru Lodge to fund security, and controversially argued for a legalized horn trade and exported 42 white rhinos to Texas in 2024.

On September 19, at age 53, Muller was killed when the gyrocopter he used to monitor his rhinos and wildfire flare-ups crashed near Outjo.
