Gerard Baker, editor-at-large of The Wall Street Journal and its editor-in-chief from 2013 to 2018, wrote a column declaring he now has what he calls a 'full-blown case of Trump dismay syndrome,' after previously insisting he was immune to Trump derangement syndrome. His list of grievances includes the president's tariff policy, indifference to public finances, the Iran conflict, and what he termed 'grotesque self-enrichment.'
Baker had supported Trump taking office and says his patience eroded gradually, moving from disappointment through disillusionment before landing at dismay. The column ran in a newspaper not typically associated with anti-Trump commentary, which is largely why it is being covered at all.

A conservative editor spending a whole column inventing his own diagnosis is the kind of thing you'd laugh off from a stranger, except this fellow used to run one of the biggest business papers in the country. When the people who talked themselves into something start talking themselves back out of it in print, it's worth noticing, even if the cure came awfully late for anybody who could've used the warning two years ago.
