The White House announced a set of science initiatives it says represent over $6 billion across government, industry, academia and philanthropy, timed to a summit called Science: A New Golden Age.

The fact sheet credits the effort to a report by OSTP Director Michael Kratsios and describes replacing diversity programs with merit, launching national missions in super intelligence, quantum, fusion and space, and building new institutions, all framed as the most transformative moment for American science since the postwar era.

Kratsios is quoted calling it ushering in a New Golden Age powered by super intelligence and a return to merit, language the release repeats rather than explains with specifics on funding sources, timelines or who exactly gets the money.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A golden age is the kind of thing your grandkids decide happened, not the kind you announce about yourself on a Tuesday. And when a press release spends more ink on 'most transformative since the war' than on who gets the money and when, I start checking my pockets. Six billion dollars sounds grand until somebody shows you the receipts.
