St. Clair County commissioners tabled a vote to launch an independent probe into Medical Director Dr. Remington Nevin, despite a December 2024 internal report describing 'demeaning and condescending behavior' and nurses alleging retaliation and sexual harassment. The nurses' union has pushed for an outside investigator rather than an internal review, citing fear of retaliation for using the county's own hotline system.

The all-Republican board split, with two commissioners backing an investigation and the majority, including the board chair, arguing it would create 'drama and friction.' Board members also disputed whether proper complaint procedures were followed, even as the union president noted nurses used the county's own anonymous reporting system as designed.
