Michael Pitt, indicted last year on charges including first-degree sexual abuse and strangulation, told a Brooklyn judge Tuesday his legal team is pursuing a possible plea deal after losing a bid to dismiss part of the indictment.

Prosecutors allege Pitt punched, strangled, and sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend between 2020 and 2021, and coached her to send texts recanting her accounts of the abuse. An assistant district attorney told the court those texts were evidence of control, not truth, citing a video in which Pitt allegedly threatened her with a sledgehammer.

Judge Abena Darkeh set an October court date, saying the parties should be ready to schedule a trial if no plea materializes. Pitt remains free on $15,000 bail and has kept his passport after his attorney argued the case was hurting his acting career.
