'South Park' won the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program and marked the occasion by posting an image of its cartoon Trump finally clutching a trophy, referencing years of the president's public grievance about never winning for 'The Apprentice.'

The joke traces back to the show's season premiere, which depicted Trump wandering a desert in a mock PSA before a crude sight gag punchline, and a season arc that included a storyline involving Satan.

The White House previously responded to the season by calling the show 'fourth-rate' and irrelevant, a review nobody asked for and everybody got anyway.

Any grown man who keeps a running tally of prizes he didn't win is telling on himself, and no press office can fix that with an adjective. The show got the statue, the White House got out a thesaurus, and only one of those two was obliged to say anything at all. That's usually how you spot which side the joke landed on.
