Russia again hits Kharkiv shopping mall with jet-powered drone

Russian forces struck a closed shopping mall in Kharkiv's Kyivskyi district on Aug. 28 with a jet-powered drone, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, sparking a fire that destroyed parts of the structure before firefighters extinguished it despite the risk of repeat strikes.

The same day a Shahed drone hit the city's Slobidskyi district, damaging six private homes, an administrative building, and several cars, injuring one person. Ukraine's Air Force had warned of jet-powered UAVs approaching Kharkiv shortly before explosions were reported.

The strikes follow an Aug. 27 attack on an Epicentr store in Kharkiv's Osnovianskyi district that killed one man and injured five others, which prosecutors attributed to a Geran-4 Seeker drone, and a similar strike on an Epicentr in Zaporizhzhya on Aug. 28.
