The European Union condemned Russia's September 18-20 State Duma elections, saying they lacked independent international oversight and unfolded amid what it called deepening authoritarian repression, including the disqualification of Yabloko, Russia's only registered antiwar party. The EU said it will never recognize voting conducted in occupied Ukrainian territories and will sanction those who organized or ran in it.
Preliminary results gave United Russia 57.82% of the vote, a tally the Institute for the Study of War said the Kremlin is framing as proof of public support for the war. No OSCE observers monitored the election, a fact the EU statement cited as part of a broader pattern of Russia disregarding its international commitments.

An election with no opposition party allowed on the ballot and no outside observers in the room is about as fair as a card game where one player deals every hand. Brussels calling it a sham is accurate, but it is also not exactly breaking news that Moscow rigs its own math homework. The real question is whether a strongly worded statement changes anything for the people voting at gunpoint in occupied towns, and the honest answer is probably not much.
