Witness says Tupac joined attack on Duane Davis’ nephew hours before shooting death

Testimony in Duane 'Keffe D' Davis's murder trial placed Tupac Shakur at a Sept. 7, 1996 brawl inside the MGM Grand, hours before Shakur was shot and killed. A police officer testified he approached Orlando Anderson, Davis's nephew, after the attack and considered him a victim, not knowing one of the attackers was Shakur.

Witnesses described the beating of Anderson as retaliation-fuel in a gang rivalry between the South Side Compton Crips, tied to Davis, and Mob Piru, tied to Marion 'Suge' Knight's circle. Knight, who was grazed by the gunfire that killed Shakur, had his probation revoked over the same MGM brawl.

A witness called under subpoena, James McDonald, testified the shooting stemmed from beef between Knight and Davis rather than wider gang conflict, while declining to answer some questions he said would hurt Davis's case.
