Ukraine's General Staff announced that Ukrainian forces struck the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil refinery in Russia's Bashkortostan region on October 8, sparking a fire at the facility, which lies nearly 1,300 kilometers from Ukraine's border. Defense contractor Fire Point said its FP-1 drones carried out the strike.
The General Staff described the plant as one of Russia's largest oil refining and petrochemical complexes, capable of processing up to 10 million tons of hydrocarbons annually, and said it supports Russian military logistics and supply. Independent monitoring channels reported the refinery has been hit repeatedly over the past year, including strikes in September 2025, July 2026, and August 2026 that damaged processing units and halted refining.
